About me
My name is Ying Wu, and I live in Calgary, Alberta. I am a PhD-level scientist who has conducted full-time brain research at the University of Calgary for the past 20 years. Alongside my professional career, I have been a community leader and advocate, volunteering with and supporting autistic communities for over a decade.
As the mother of an autistic youth, I have developed a deep appreciation for the unique strengths, perspectives, and potential of autistic individuals. Through both my professional and personal experiences, I have come to believe that—with the right supports and inclusive environments—autistic people can thrive and make meaningful contributions to their communities. I am deeply passionate about building a society that celebrates neurodiversity and values people for who they truly are.
In 2024, together with other parents of autistic children, I co-founded the nonprofit organization Spectrum Promising Association to promote understanding, inclusion, and opportunities for autistic individuals and their families.
